Any quality construction starts with a strong foundation wall. A concrete footing is the base of the foundation. It is typically wider than the wall that will sit on it. Footings disperse the load of the wall that rest on the soil so it doesn’t sink into the ground. The wall is then poured on the footing to the finished elevation. Concrete walls can be used for house foundations, buildings, retaining walls and more. The amount of re-bar placed in the footing and wall is determined by the loads the wall will carry. These loads are usually determined by an engineer. The strength of concrete used is also specific to the use of the wall.
